The purpose of water level monitoring is to determine annual extreme water level probabilities, based on an existing record, and in view of projected rates of sea-level rise.
The Water Modeler is a tool which maintains water level and related data and models rates of sea-level rise, detect historical storm surge occurences, and models the probabilities of flooding in the future.
The Water Modeller allows for the following tasks to be accomplished:
- Maintain tide gauge information
- Maintain hourly water level data for each tide gauge or selected site
- Calculate monthly and annual water levels
- Calculate current rates of relative sea-level rise
- Optionally calculate or enter future rates of relative sea-level rise
- Calculate hourly residuals
- Identify storm surges according to user parameters
- Calculate probabilities of exceeding a given water level at some point in the future
- Calculate the highest water level that will be exceeded at some point in the future with a given probability
